What a joy to be part of this amazing project led by one of my favorite people and musicians: Brian Blade!! With Jon Cowherd, Myron Walden, John Hartt, Monte Croft and Doug Weiss. Recorded live at KEXP Studios in Seattle, Sept 27, 2019.
Very excited to receive the news that John Finbury‘s album “SORTE”, on which I play percussion, is nominated for 2020 GRAMMY® Award in the Best Latin Jazz Album.

I’m also on percussion on Mike Holober‘s “HIDING OUT” which is nominated for 2020 GRAMMY® Award in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble category.

Very happy to share the first video from my album release concert ‘No Old Rain’ at the York Theater (NYC).

“The sounds in ‘No Old Rain’ transcend space and time, allowing the listener to discover unique musical paths.” Toninho Horta
Leading his own group, Rogério arrives at the release of his debut recording as a leader – No Old Rain (coming out May 25th on Red Piano Records). With his quartet, Rogério breaks out of the traditional jazz mold, collectively weaving form and structure out of the disparate threads of each member’s creative input, using motifs from each song as springboards for spontaneous group compositions. The result of this open- eared deconstruction is a reverent, impressionistic vision of each song. The album is a warmly-colored Brazilian Rorschach test viewed through a much-loved second-hand kaleidoscope.
‘No Old Rain’ focuses on gems of Brazilian music excavated from the source – written by four of the greatest composers of the post-Bossa Nova generation, who took Brazilian music into new directions: Toninho Horta, Milton Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti and Edu Lobo. Just as their music could have only come from Brazil in the late 20th century, ‘No Old Rain’ is the seemingly inevitable result of Rogério Boccato’s 13 years in New York.

Great news about Alan Ferber‘s ‘Jigsaw‘ and Billy Child‘s ‘Rebirth‘ albums, both nominated for a Grammy this year!! I am honored to have contributed with some percussion parts on both of these recordings. And Billy Childs‘ album actually won the grammy for best jazz album of the year!!!! Many congrats to Billy and Alan and to all the musicians involved on these two recordings!
