MUSIC WORKSHOPS – August 2016
Summer is almost here and we will all have some extra time on our hands. So, if you find yourself in NYC during the month of August, consider coming to the various intensive workshops I’m putting together to work on your rhythmic skills: from RITMICA to all sorts of Brazilian music styles. Open to all instrumentalists and vocalists, we will dig deep into all-things-rhythm!
August 4, 5 & 6
RITMICA – A unique approach to rhythmic development through practical exercises designed to develop independence and a stronger sense of rhythm, helping students to internalize and to feel rhythmic figures and patterns. Recommended to all musicians, jazz and classical, singers and instrumentalists, composers and conductors.
August 11, 12 & 13
BRAZILIAN JAZZ COMBO – Work on the various styles from different regions in Brazil, starting with the percussion parts and applying it to all the instruments in the band (rhythm section, horns, percussion, vocals) through the vast Brazilian music repertoire.
August 18, 19 & 20
BRAZILIAN RHYTHMS – From the PERCUSSION to the DRUM SET– Learn the various patterns that compose key rhythms of some of the most important, and some not-so-well-known, Brazilian grooves, playing together as a percussion section and applying all that to the drum set.
August 25, 26 & 27
PORTUGUESE PRONUNCIATION & BRAZILIAN MUSIC FOR VOCALISTS
Group and individual sessions with our special guest, Noemia Marinho (Portuguese Language Specialist). Sing the tunes you bring accompanied by a trio. Work on essential elements of selected Brazilian styles. Percussion 101 – accompany yourself with various percussion instruments.

Piano, drums, amps, and a PA system with mics will be provided.
TIME: 2 – 6 pm (Thu & Fri) and 10am – 2 pm (Sat)
LOCATION: The Neighborhood Church – 269 Bleecker St, West Village. (Trains: 1, 2, A, B, C, D, E, F, M)
